We didn't really have any party for him last year coz I was too sick and tired out to organise anything. So this year, we decided to make it up to him by throwing him a party and inviting all his friends. After some research and planning, we decided that it will be a BBQ party and the invitee list included immediate family, his cousins Nic and Nat, and his playmates from our caregroup.
Initially I had lots of grand plans for the menu, the party favours, the children's programme, the decorations etc. But... it was really unfortunate that 5 days before the party, I caught a really bad bout of flu that gave me a high fever for 5 days and one of the worst sore throats I've ever had. It was so bad that I couldn't even squeak on the day of the party and could just give my guests a tiny smile. Anyway, with a fever and a bad throat, naturally all my grand plans flew out of the window and I ended up just concentrating on the food. Thank God I had help from Ma-ma and Yeeyee so it wasn't all that bad. Ma-ma wasn't able to join us for the party as she was going away with Gong Gong for a holiday but she managed to help me to prepare some of the seasoning and sambal for the BBQ. Yeeyee did a fantastic job in giving my party favours a last minute boost of Disney stickers and magnetic bookmarks and hairclips for the girls. My brother-in-law appeared with a bunch of helium balloons to distribute to the kids at the party and the star of the day was Caleb's birthday cake which Yeeyee baked herself that morning.
Though I didn't manage to plan any programme for the children, I think they enjoyed themselves even more simply running wild and chasing each other round the BBQ area.
See Caleb with his hair all plastered to his head. He was running wild chasing his friends. Incidentally, his "friends" were all girls. All the boys who were invited to the party were too young to join in the fun. (Yes... once again, I'm faced with the angst that my son only has got female playmates...)
Uncle Chris slurping the last of the honeydew sago that I made. Me and Daddy were too tired out with all the preparations and entertaining the guests that we didn't take any photos of the food. This is the only photo that we have of our guests eating at the party.

The cake that Yeeyee baked for Caleb. It was certainly no easy task for Yeeyee coz we had asked Caleb before the party what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he kept changing his mind. His orders ranged from a red Ferrari car cake to a fighter jet, to Elmo in a sports car, to a big ship... well the list goes on. His most consistent two choices were the Ferarri car and the fighter jet. Well, one week before the party, he decided it'llbe a red Ferrari car cake. Really created a headache for Yeeyee, but don't you think she's really talented. She baked this on the morning of the party and the cake had Ferrari sports cars, flags which she made herself, and even a trophy which can be lighted up. Naturally all the guests were terribly impressed.
Caleb taking a photo with the girls in his life... see... no little boys in the picture...

See how delicious the cake is...

And here's a satisfied Christien with cream all over his mouth
We were all so tired out at the end of the party that we just headed home, dropped all our things and slept in till late morning. The next day, after Caleb woke up and was well rested in the afternoon, we let him open his presents.
Here he is posing with the presents he received.
Though me and Daddy were extremely tired out after the party, we thought it was well worth the effort coz Caleb was REALLY happy at the party and we could see that he was having a lot of fun. The things that parents do for their children...
