Singing Caleb

These few weeks, Caleb is into singing. He has been coming home and singing songs that he learnt in school and sometimes it's songs that I sing with him at home. When he sits in the car and listen to his songs, sometimes he'll comment and say,"I know how to sing this song you know, Mummy," and sometimes, he'll just try to follow along and echo the last word of each line.
I think he's really getting better at picking up new songs and remembering the lyrics. Most of the time he can remember maybe 85% of the songs that are more familiar to him. Sometimes, he'll sing half the song and forget the other half of the lyrics. The good and amazing thing that I've discovered is that the songs that I used to sing as a kid in kindergarten are still being taught today.. and thank God I can still remember those songs that I learnt. So when he starts singing and can't remember the lyrics, I'll help him out by filling in the gaps for him and singing along with him. I think he really enjoys it when I sing with him.

Here' s Caleb singing one of his favourite songs - "The Wheels On the Bus". We were reading his Barney storybook together and there was a story on Barney being the bus driver and that inspired Caleb to start singing. The surprising thing for me was that he followed on with two other variations which he learnt in school. Oh, and his singing is still a little out of tune for now, but I think he's getting there.

Success of Mummy's Poo Poo Training

Testimony to Mummy's Poo Poo training, Caleb warned us way in advance today when he needed to do his big business. Thinking it was pretty urgent, I quickly packed him off to the toilet and set him up to do his business.
Caleb : Not yet. Must wait a while.
Daddy : Ok, we wait a while then.
Caleb : Later when the poo poo come, it will go drruuuup.
Daddy : The poo poo will go druuuup?
Caleb : Yes. It's coming!
"Druuuuppppppppppp!"
Caleb : See, when poo poo come, it will go druuuuup.
Now he not only knows when he roughly needs to go, but also that he may have to wait a while for the s*** to flow downhill, and even the sound effect that it makes :)

Swordsman wears...

I was just putting on Caleb's night diapers for him when he started waving his small little bolster and said :-
Caleb : This is my sword!
Daddy : Are you the swordsman?
Caleb : Yes! Swordsman wear diapers!
Well, I guess that's ok. If Superman can wear his underwear outside, why can't swordsmen wear diapers.

Who's the cow now?

The latest cow is Mummy again.
This just happened tonight.
Caleb : Mummy, you made milk tonight! You're the cow!
Mummy : Huh?
Daddy sniggers.
Caleb : And when Caleb drinks milk, mummy cow will pray tonight.
Mummy : Tsk.
Daddy laughs.
Guess none of us will ever have the last laugh. I'll probably get the cow duty tomorrow night :)

Who's the Cow?

Two nights ago, as I was preparing Caleb's milk before he went to sleep, I overheard Caleb's conversation with Daddy in the room...

Daddy: Caleb, who makes milk?
Caleb: Cows make milk.
Daddy: Oh, so does Mummy make milk?
Caleb: Yes! Mummy's a cow!

As I stood outside, I was thinking... Great! This Daddy is asking to go sleep in the toilet! See when you put two boys together, the nonsense that they conjure up with each other!

Then I went into the room to pass Caleb his milk and Caleb declared to me... "Mummy, you make milk! You're a cow!" and he laughed and then he looked at Daddy and said "See, Mummy didn't scold me..." Apparently when Caleb said that I was a cow, Daddy told him that I would scold him if he told me that. And then the two boys just couldn't stop laughing.

Well, last night, I told Daddy that it was his turn to make milk for Caleb. And when he passed Caleb his milk, Caleb laughed and told him "Daddy, you make milk. You're a cow." And after he drank his milk, he wanted to pray so he said "Daddy Cow, time to pray."

Heehee... see who gets the last laugh!

Public Performance

Caleb had his first public performance on Wednesday. His school organised a graduation concert for the K2 graduating class and got all the students in the school to put up a musical. They basically got the different classes to put up different song and dance items using countries around the world as their team. Well for a first attempt in putting together a musical with such young children, I think the school did pretty well.

Here's the musical's theme.

And the musical started with an introduction from these two K2 MCs. The school dressed them up in frocks and suit. Quite pro huh.

Anyway, obviously the highlight for me and Daddy was to watch Caleb perform and see how he is in his school environment. Well, I must say the boy has his Daddy's performing genes and I think he not only looked very handsome but he looked like he was enjoying himself on stage, dancing and remembering his steps. He performed a medley of 2 songs. One was London Bridge is falling down and another was We're going to the Zoo Tomorrow.

Here's our very first glimpse of him on stage when they drew the curtains. We had dropped him off with his teachers in his school uniform so we were pleasantly surprised to see him in a suit with makeup and hair all gelled up. Doesn't he look cute and handsome? (Ya, Mummy's biased opinion...) Ok lah, actually the rest of his classmates look quite cute too.

Here's a close up shot of him giving his best smile to the audience

And here's Caleb waiting for the cue to start with his classmates. See all their porcupine hairstyles?
Me and Daddy couldn't help laughing coz they all looked so cute.

See Caleb springing into action with his classmates.
He's really not shy at all on stage even though there were like maybe 100 parents sitting in the audience.

Here's a glimpse of 3 of the girls in his class. Guess which one is Alyssa (his favourite girl).

And here's the other performers from his school.
They look really cute in their colourful costumes.

Did you guess? Here's Caleb standing beside his Alyssa at the grand finale.

After the performance, me and Daddy both took photos with our handsome boy

We actually video taped Caleb's performance as well but will need to convert it into CD before we can load it up. Akan Datang ok?

Happy Birthday Godma Mag and Uncle Will

Today's Godma Mag's birthday and following up is Uncle Will's birthday as well.
When we visited Godma Mag and Uncle Will in April, they took excellent care of us. They took time off from work to fly down to San Francisco to show us around and hosted us at their house for 2 weeks in Seattle.
They really worked so hard when we visited them, bringing us around, driving us around, feeding us, cooking for us and even babysitting Caleb.

Actually I still got a ton of photos of our US trip that I've not posted up (coz there's just too many to sieve through...) Anyway, here's just a small handful of photos of Godma Mag and Uncle Will spending time with Caleb in SF and Seattle.

It's really quite a shame that we're miles apart coz Caleb really enjoyed their company and of course me and Daddy also enjoyed Godma Mag and Uncle Will's company as well.
A few days before we were due to fly back to Spore, we had a little scare with Meimei and Godma Mag had to drive me and Daddy to the hospital at night. And poor Godma had to wait for me and Daddy for 3hrs till 1am before we were done with the doctor. And Uncle Will had the "priviledge" of handling Caleb on his own at home and had to give him milk and put him to sleep. Well, we all think he did an excellent and very commendable job coz he did manage to put Caleb to sleep. Although Caleb woke up after a while, Uncle Will managed to hold the fort on his own and subdued Caleb's tears and wails for Mummy and Daddy. For somebody who's not yet a Daddy, we all think Uncle Will passed the test with flying colours!

Anyway, Godma Mag and Uncle Will, here's wishing you a very
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday Chek Chek

Yesterday was Chek Chek's birthday and we went out today as a family for a little belated birthday celebration. Chek Chek's choice for dinner was at Ju Shin Jung Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant at East Coast. After we had our fill of BBQ meat and Korean side dishes, we "surprised" Chek Chek with his "birthday cake". We presented him with a little Barney cupcake which Caleb was obviously very excited about. Before Chek Chek even saw the cake, Caleb had already excitedly declared that it's a Barney cake.
Here's Chek Chek and Caleb blowing out the candle on the Barney cupcake.

And here's Chek Chek with his actual birthday cake.
See the cake alight with MANY candles. Ya, age is catching up with Chek Chek.

We ended the evening with a family photo. The restaurant manager, knowing it's Chek Chek's birthday, came with party hats and a polariod camera and took the photo for us.

A Boy's Need For Modesty

Yesterday after Caleb came home from school, I wanted to change him out of his long pants and let him wear shorts so that it'll be more cooling for him. I picked out this pair of shorts for him coz I thought it looks "airy" and would be comfortable for him.

And this is how he reacted when he saw the shorts...

Caleb: NO, I don't want to wear this one!
Mummy: Why Caleb? It's more cooling. This one is nice.
Caleb: No! This one got holes! See! (Takes the shorts from me and shows me the holes... Yah, like I can't see the holes like that??!!)
Mummy: No... it's meant to be like that. That's the design of the shorts. It's nice!
Caleb: No! Got holes! (Now he's starting to sound more upset and exasperated with me...)
Mummy: But Caleb, it's ok to have the holes there...
Caleb: No Mummy! (Now he's sounding REALLY upset and frowning) Later I wear this one got holes and people see already, they will laugh at me and say shame shame!

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when he said that. Wah, my son IS GROWING UP. I didn't realise that he's actually self conscious about people looking at him. Talk about modesty man. Ok lah, say this kind of thing to me how to reject him right? Of course I immediately said "oh ok, then we choose another one to wear ok?" I guess it's time for me as his Mummy to start respecting his need for modesty.
