Sophia at 1 month
One of the few moments that I catch her giving big smiles during her first month.
Incidentally this outfit that she's wearing is from my good friend Mag, all the way from the US. She actually bought this 6 years ago for Nic but by the time she sent it across, Nic couldn't fit into it. My sis kept this for Nat but Nat was growing super fast so I think she also couldn't fit into it. It then got handed down to Sarah. I tried to fit her into this at 3 months but surprise surprise, though she was a small baby, I had difficulty getting her into the outfit as well. So finally after 3 unsuccessful attempts, for Sophia, I dug it out and dressed her in it at her 1st month and, I'm pleased to say that finally, one of the girls got to wear the outfit!
Our first month with Sophia was quite tiring coz of all the adjustments that we have to make. New family member, waking up a few times at night to feed her, helping the 2 older kids to get used to having a new sibling, confinement for me, plus ND was having his exams.
Our 2nd month with Sophia went from tiring to challenging. This month, she had a lot of wind in her and she was colicky. Almost every evening, at about 7 plus to 8pm, she'll start crying and wailing and sometimes screaming very loudly. Nothing that we did seemed to comfort her. We rubbed oil for her, gave her Ridwind (a medicine to get rid of colic in babies), we sang (at least ND sang and rocked her but I gave up after a while coz her screams were drowning out my voice), we carried her, we rocked her. We did all the things that the old grandmas would tell us not to do so as not to spoil her. We did it all but in the end, all we could do was to wait for her to tire herself out from her cries and go to bed. It usually ends at abt midnight. So month 2, I built up a lot of my arm strength.
Sophia at 2 months. Looking nice and fattened up.
The next photo is an example of her fierce and unhappy she can look. Coz of all her screaming and wailing during the 1st 2 months, she earned herself the nickname "So-fierce". That's what me and ND called her after a while and we think we named her so aptly. Really, she's the fiercest and loudest of all my babies. She's so loud that if she starts crying, she can be heard at the 1st floor of my flat.
During the Xmas season, when we went for our caregroup's party, I had to hide in my friend's room with her when she started wailing non stop. Friends who came later to the party were all left wondering whose baby was that crying so loudly and for so long.
Presenting... "So-fierce"
At the end of month 2, we saw that she has started lifting up her head and with a little exercise every day, she's able to push herself up.
Month 3. I'm finally seeing a change in her temperament. She is still as loud as ever when she cries, but her colic seems to have gone away and she seems more easy to pacify at night. She also seems to be recognising people around her and we're now rewarded with lots of smiles and coos from her. She's especially happy in the morning and she'll really make my day when she smiles and chuckles when she sees me.
Here's a video of her smiling away
And here's my favourite video of her chucking and squealing with delight.
This month, I also attempted to take a passport photo for her as I'll need to attend a wedding dinner in JB at the end of the month. Though she is more easily settled in the evenings, we think it's best that I bring her along coz as of now, I'm the best person to pacify her if she acts up at night.
Take 1. Too happy looking. Don't quite meet the requirements.
Take 2. Now this one looks more suitable as a nice passport photo.
To end off, here's another of my favourite photos of her
