Poo Poo and Night Wee Wee Training

This is what we are embarking on next. Poo Poo and night wee wee training. I'm proud to say that my dear son is now almost successfully wee wee trained in the day. That means that we can go around at home without diaper and he'll tell us whenever he needs to wee and we'll go to the toilet bowl to let him do his deed. Last Thursday I spoke to his teacher in school and we agreed to let him go to school without his diapers. I was worried that he'll not inform his teachers if he needed to wee but they assured me that he'll probably take at most one week and it's ok if we have "accidents". On Friday, when I picked him up from school, his teacher told me he was very good and he went around successfully without his diapers. It was also the first time that I started driving around with him without any diapers. I was very apprehensive initially but before we get into the car, I'll send him to the toilet and after we get out of the car, off we go to the toilet again.
We decided that to be successful in diaper training, we got to be prepared for accidents and just be brave and get rid of the diapers altogether so as not to confuse him. Every time we go out and I don't feel confident about him, I'll start asking Daddy whether we should just give him his diapers but Daddy has been adamant and bravely said "No need lah."
Well, we did make some preparations though. I now have an empty bottle in the car, just in case he gets really urgent and can't hold his pee in. And I bought a protector sheet from Ikea to line his car seat and his mattress. Just in case of accidents. I'm also trying out letting him take his afternoon naps without diapers and I'm going to embark on night training as well!
And there's the poop training. Hmm... this is the one that's giving me a headache at the moment. My dear Caleb, for whatever reason, seems terrified of pooing into the potty and toilet bowl. The only place that he seems to be able to poo into is his diaper. This boy has very regular bowel movements but eversince I took away his diapers, he'll not poo for a day and the next day, after holding it all in, he'll do something major. And if he doesn't do it first thing in the morning when he still has his diaper on,... well, he'll do it in his shorts, which will then come onto the floor. All in all, a very messy affair for us. For the past 3 weeks, he has had 4 accidents. Twice at home, once at Ma-ma's house and the latest one, on Friday evening while we were having cell at Auntie Carol's place. Those are moments when I think, we better diaper him up!
So on Friday, before we went for cell, my Mummy's instincts told me that he's going to do his business soon and I kept asking him whether he needed to poo. He gave me his usual "NO NO!" although not very convincingly. And then there was this split second when he was alone in Auntie Carol's helper's room, he did his poo on the floor and announced loudly to Uncle Chris, " I poo poo on the floor!" Uncle Chris was really amused but obviously we were not. Well, that was not the last straw. After some time, Caleb needed to pee. He informed us but the toilet was occupied and after waiting and waiting and waiting, the poor boy couldn't hold it in any longer, he peed outside Auntie Carol's toilet door. I was really most apologetic towards Auntie Carol. Luckily she was very understanding coz she has a one year old son herself. Well, she did say thank God he didn't do it on her helper's bed.
Obviously this poop training is adding to my stress level coz every time he doesn't poo for the day, the next day would be like a time bomb for me, constantly having to watch him for the first sign of him wanting to do his big business.
Well, today's one of those days. He hasn't pooed the whole of yesterday. I'm hoping he doesn't do it in school or in the car when I pick him up later. My only hope is for him to move his bowels when he comes home. Hopefully I'll be able to rush him to the toilet to do his deed there before I'm too late again.
I read in the web that there's this training called Elimination Communication where babies start toilet training as young as 1-3 months and most of them are trained before 1 years old. Maybe I'll try this out with Number 2 so I won't have my kid disagreeing with me about sitting on the potty or toilet bowl!
