It's been a long time since I've blogged, and truth-be-told, I think my wife is doing a much better job at updating what God has been doing in Caleb's life than I've ever done. Nevertheless, it's good to give the hubby-daddy perspective once in a while. So while my main point of this blog entry is on how much I missed my familee while I was away on business, I shall start off by putting in my 5 cents on some of the recently blogged entries :)
1. Big Business and Small Business
For the daddys who only have daughters, you can be thankful that you don't have to sprint to the public toilets 5-6 times during a shopping trip, holding your boy up precariously in a position that will not result in a wet-warmth sensation on your own clothes should the dam burst (since you'll suddenly become acutely aware of the fact that you're wearing light coloured clothings and while you're well-prepared with extra clothings for your son, you've forgotten to bring some for yourself), while at the same time looking frantically for the nearest toilet (though it helps when your son is aware too of how your anxiety is reduced when a toilet is found and thus keeps a look-out for the toilet sign too, which is what Caleb did and shouted out loud "There! There! There!" so loud once that Mummy who was at least 50 metres away could hear it clearly).
As for Big Business, I think the dads usually take it more easy. You'd remember Uncle Chris, whom Caleb first revealed his deed to at Auntie Carol's house. Uncle Chris, after having been told and seen the damage, came up to me leisurely and said, while smiling, "Your son has done it... poo poo, on the floor, and came up to me to tell me :)". And my reply was simply, smiling back, "Really? Haha, smelly or not?". And all this while, Caleb was standing there watching us talk and telling us "I poo poo, I poo poo". Yup, with the poo stains still in his pants. It was only after that when the mummy realised what had happened that it became a big commotion that everyone joined in to take a look.
2. Male Bonding
Here's a few facts that I'm writing to Caleb about Liverpool for which I WILL make him read when he grows slightly older (I've left out other facts like Liverpool is the BEST club in the world, with the most english league titles, and the english club with the most European Cups out in order to be sensitive to the readers out there who might not have the privilege or "sense" to support the most successful club)
a. Veronin is a BOY and not a GIRL even though he has got long hair tied up into a ponytail.
b. We will NEVER support a blue team, since Liverpool NEVER wears blue.
c. We may not support a RED team all the time, since some wanna-be clubs also wear red (but should Tampines Rovers wear red, we will support them too).
Finally, since it was Caleb's first real experience watching and supporting a soccer team (not withstanding the fact that 3 days after he was born, he did watch Liverpool win the Champions League together with me), he is forgiven for ever wanting to support a BLUE. If it happens again, he goes to the naughty corner...a RED naughty corner.
3. Late!
Today, Caleb cried again. Though I wasn't late. It just happened that another parent had gone to the school even earlier and when he heard the door bell ringing, he ran to the door thinking it was me, and when he saw that it wasn't my handsome face, he started crying again. Poor boy. His little fragile heart needs a little mending, so while I've reassured him again throughout the journey home how much we love him, I think we have to put in more effort at beating the other parents to it!
Back to Missing FamiLEE
I was away on a business trip for 4 days last week, and here's a few things I've discovered while I was away.
a. How thankful I was that photos of your family can now be stored on your handphones, your desktops and even the age-old photo in your wallet.
b. How much you look forward to a new post on this very blog just to get a glimpse of what's going on in your family's life. (which is also why I'm doing my part to update others now as well :)).
c. How thankful I was for mobile technology that I was able to pray with my family our nightly prayers even while I was having my dinner
d. How much a boy grows in just 4 days. Mannerisms, voice, muscles and speech all seem more advanced after just 4 days.
e. How much it means for your family to pick you up from the airport. Even though cab ride back home can be claimed, but nothing beats seeing your family smiling at you coming to pick you up from the airport.
All in all, I'm thankful to God for small mercies which allows me to spend more time with my family over the past few years and though I know that there will very likely still be occasions which will result in me being away for a while, I can leave my family in the safe hands of a Father who loves them even more than I do.
