Sarah's Debut

Last Saturday was our church friend Rupen and Jasmine's wedding and Famileez got roped in to help out. ND was the worship leader and the Emcee for the church wedding and Caleband Sarah were asked to be one of the pageboys and flower girls.

When Rupen asked to borrow my kids for his wedding, I had no qualms about Caleb coz he's really a pro at being a pageboy now. This is like his 5th, 6th or 7th time? I've really lost count but it's really a no brainer for him now. He knows exactly what to do and he's been enjoying himself with all the attention that he gets as a pageboy. Now, Sarah was a different matter altogether. Last year, at Grace and Choo Choo's wedding, Caleb and Sarah were supposed to be the pageboy and flowergirl but after we brought Sarah to the wedding rehearsal, we concluded that she wasn't going to make it. She was less than 2 years old, she had a mind of her own and nobody will be able to make her walk down the aisle on the actual day if she didn't want to, so, we decided that it was best that we pull her out and let Caleb do it on his own.

So, with Rupen's wedding, I had to tell him upfront that I cannot guarantee that she would cooperate. Ya, she's older now and all, but still, she's my "wild horse" at home and sometimes even we can get quite exasperated trying to get her to do what we want. We tested water with her first. A week before the wedding, Rupen and Jasmine came to our house to choose the kids' clothes. She was slightly reluctant to put on her dress at first but agreed in the end. I had to keep telling her that KorKor will be the pageboy and she will be the flowergirl,. just like Kimi. She remembered that Kimi did a wedding stint together with Caleb for a wedding last year and it pleased her to be like Kimi. (She's into following the big che ches).

When we went for the wedding rehearsal, we had to queue up outside the sanctuary with the other flowergirls and pageboy. She was OK to stand with the other children but kept telling me that she didn't want to hold korkor's hand. She wanted to hold mine instead! Thankfully, when the music started and the children were cued in, I held her hand for like 2seconds and quickly let it go and I just didn't follow her into the sanctuary. With all the music and people looking, her performing genes kicked in and she just walked out obediently holding on to Caleb's hand and smiling sweetly. I was relieved and we did a couple more run throughs and I could see that she enjoyed running along with the other kids. It was fun for her and I was more optimistic about the whole situation!

On the actual day, she allowed me to dress her up. She seemed to be in a cheery mood. We went to church early and she posed for photos and all. All went well, until we were cued that the wedding would start in 5min time. We queued up outside the sanctuary to wait for ND, our dear emcee to start the service. Then... my dear Sarah, The Princess, started to act up! She didn't want to hold Caleb's hand, she wanted me to carry her, she wanted me to hold her hand... and in my desperation, I dangled the carrot! "Do you want biscuit? Mummy go take some for you?" I had very wisely brought along some biscuits just in case the kids got hungry and Sarah liked them very much. Haha, she took the bait and I made my escape!!!

I was told by the other flowergirls' mummy that Caleb was so serious about his role. After I left, Sarah continued to give Caleb a hard time by refusing to hold his hand. He was heard telling Sarah in an urgent tone, "Quick, hold my hand! Going to start already!" And the feisty girl gave him a hard time by jumping up and down, trying to shake his hand off hers. Haha, and apparently he tried to shout for me to tell me that Sarah's not listening to him! Thankfully, I had escaped to the safety of my seat and was pretending to dig for biscuits from my bag.

Anyway, once the music started, all of Sarah's antics stopped and she just walked in like a pro, looking ahead and smiling sweetly at everybody. Though there was a lot of people in the sanctuary, she didn't show any signs of fear of hesitation. You would NEVER have guessed how she was behaving just before this. Somebody told me that that's how PrimaDonnas behave! They give you a hard time behind the scenes! Haha, perhaps so, after all, she's Sarah The Princess. Our little highness at home who hardly gives in without a good fight and behaves as her mood dictates.

Here's the video of the walk-in. See how sweetly Sarah's smiling. A lot of aunties and uncles came up to me after the wedding, telling me how sweet and cute the kids were.

And of course, I was really proud of the two of them. I thought Sarah did very well given the size of the crowd and she was the youngest kid in the entourage. As for Caleb, he did an excellent job too helping his little sister make her debut into the flowergirl biz.

And now for the photos...

The Pageboy and the Flowergirl posing in the sanctuary

A closeup look. I like this shot very much.
I think Caleb looks very cool standing like this and putting his arm around Sarah.

Our turn to take a photo.
Me and ND trying our very best to look like James Bond and his Bond girl.
Actually, I think we look better than them...haha

And now, a family photo. Unfortunately Sophia's not in the photo. I figured with ND tied up as the worship leader and emcee, there was no way that I could cope carrying Sophia around and trying to get Caleb and Sarah ready.

Here's Caleb with Uncle Raveen, Rupen's bro.
He helped me to gel and style Caleb's hair and he did an excellent job!

Now, the handsome boy with his sister, the Prima Donna.
Btw, in this photo, Caleb's the spitting image of ND as a child.

Ma-ma was invited to the wedding too and she brought Nic along.

Last but not least, the biscuits that saved the day!
