Caleb's 5th Birthday Celebration - With Godpa

This year, I executed my plan not to throw Caleb any birthday party. For the past year, I had worked hard to psycho him and sell him the idea that it's ok not to have a birthday party, we can still have an enjoyable birthday celebrating it with family and friends. What resulted was little mini celebrations with different groups of people.
The Monday before Caleb's birthday, Godpa requested to take him out for a celebration. So after Caleb's nap, I brought him and Sarah to the airport to meet up with Godpa.
Godpa treated us to ice cream at Swensens, then we took the sky train to T3 so that Caleb could go on the kiddy ride and then we took the sky train back to T2. Doesn't sound too exciting? Well, it was a lot of fun for Caleb coz in his mind, Airport + Sky Train + Ice Cream + Kiddy Ride = Lots of fun!

We ordered a Firehouse Birthday Ice cream for Caleb. From my memories of it as a child, I remember that it came with a few scoops of ice cream surrounding this block of candle which was lighted. I thought that Caleb might be impressed but I was disappointed when the ice cream came. They now use this scrawny teeny weeny candle in the middle and it looked terribly unimpressive. I think they need to change the name of the ice cream to fire stick instead of fire house. Nonetheless, my boy was excited about the ice cream and dug in immediately. It was a treat for him as I hardly let him eat ice cream coz he has a terribly sensitive nose and is often besieged with a phlegmy throat and drippy nose when he eats too much dairy products. And I took the opportunity to introduce new flavours of ice cream to him like cookies and cream, malted chocolate, butterscotch etc. My boy is quite sua ku in this area and is only familiar with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours.

The unimpressive ice cream that we had. It was so unimpressive that I forgot to take a photo of it when it came, so here's the half eaten version...

Sarah, slurping hers up too

After ice cream, we were off to T3 to sit on the kiddy rides. Caleb and Sarah came previously and enjoyed themselves very much so they were quite excited to have another go with the cars.

It was a Monday evening and there weren't many people riding on the cars. Caleb and Sarah actually had the whole track to themselves. I think Caleb would have preferred to have a little more traffic around him coz he asked me where are all the rest of the cars.

After the kids were done with their white BMW, they each got into one of the F1 cars. No, they didn't ride on the F1 cars coz Sarah's too young to navigate on her own and it was getting late. So they were just allowed to sit in the cars for a while and pose for me.

And so, that's how Caleb celebrated his birthday with Godpa.

BTW, Godpa originally asked to bring Caleb to Universal Studios but I think he's not quite ready for a lot of the rides and would not fully enjoy the whole experience... so Godpa, think we got to wait for a few more years ok?
