Diary of a New Daddy: Sophia Turns 6 months!

How time flies... my little one is 6 months old already! And from "So-fierce", she's now "So-fat"... Haha, I didn't come up with the names, ND did! But I have to admit, she's now chubby chubby. She's got these huge fatty multi-layer thighs which I absolutely love. I'm already thinking that I'm going to miss them when she starts to lose her baby fats. Ya, I got a fetish for fatty baby thighs... so soft and succulent and so squeezable! Ok, I'm digressing... So, my little Sophia is growing big and fast. Much faster than Sarah did. I know coz she's outgrowing her clothes faster than Sarah at the same age. And I get a backache from carrying her for too long. I never had that problem with Sarah. And when I bring her out, the aunties who ask how old she is usually think she's at least a couple of months older than she really is.

And we're seeing more of her temperament emerging. I foresee that I'm in for a much noisier household when she can walk and talk. She is the one with the richest emotions and appears to be the most playful one. She laughs very easily and loudly but she's also very quick to swing to the other end and cry very loudly. I think other than me (the milk supplier), she loves her kor kor and jie jie best. She just needs to catch a glimpse of them and she'll break into a big wide smile. Throw all 3 of them together and I'll hear her chuckling non-stop. Sometimes I have to put a stop to her chuckling, especially when it's near bedtime coz she'll laugh so hard that when it's time to go to bed, I think she gets over stimulated. Then she has difficulty sleeping, and she ends up crying and wailing herself to sleep. Ya and poor me, will have a hard time for the night.

The thing about this girl is that when she's upset, she's REALLY UPSET. She'll just close her eyes and keep wailing at the top of her voice. We've learned that to get her to stop, we need to get her to open her eyes and distract her. And the most ideal form of distraction is to get Caleb and Sarah to call her and play peek-a-boo with her. So once she starts, we'll turn to the older kids for help and when she hears their voices, she'll open her eyes and laugh. She's really a sight to see when she behaves like this...she'll be all red in the face, big fat tears streaming down and yet she's chuckling away. See what I mean about her being highly emotional and playful! (Hmm, btw, I think she may have gotten the playful part from me but the highly emotional genes definitely didn't come from me...)

Haha, no lah, she's generally a happy and smiley baby.

Her favourite games at the moment is peek-a-boo and for us to tickle her. That definitely gets her laughing.

She seems to be ready soon to sit up on her own. We kinda practised a little today and she could sit by herself for a short while but once she gets excited about something that she wants to grab, she'll start to lose her balance and topple over. I think she's also on the verge of crawling too. She's been doing lots of butt lifting but she hasn't quite figure out how to coordinate her limb movements so she just ends up throwing herself forward.

I was actually planning to start her on semi-solids this week coz she looks absolutely ready. When she sees us eat, she'll try to mimic our mouth movement and she'll start to spit out a lot of drool. Sometimes if she's near enough, she'll try to grab our spoon or cup. Unfortunately for her, with all the HFMD and flu virus that we're having at home, I decided to just delay it till next week so that if she gets any allergic reaction, I can tell for sure and not think that she's sick.
