HFMD again!!!

Yes, the dreaded disease that strikes terror in Famileez... it's back and our "lucky" victim this time round is Sarah. Thankfully, she seems to be having a very mild case of it coz she doesn't have any fever, she doesn't have any obvious blisters and her appetite is good! We did notice 2 or 3 tiny little dots under her left arm on Monday but we thought that those were mosquito bites. It was only when Caleb came home from school on Monday evening and told us that there's an outbreak of Chicken pox in his school that we got a little more vigilant.

On Tuesday morning, when Sarah woke up, there were a couple more tiny dots on her left arm, one or two on her back and her bum bum, that I got worried and rushed her to the PD. HFMD was really the last diagnosis that I expected to hear from the doc coz she doesn't have any blisters on her hand, foot or mouth! But PD insisted that it's HFMD coz if it's chicken pox, it would start from the face and body and not the arm... Anyway, her diagnosis frightened the daylights out of me coz last year, when our family caught it, we were quarantined for almost a month coz we took turns to get it. And I've already gotten it THREE times as an adult and it's really not fun at all. Plus now we've got Sophia, so the impact of it is massive!!!

So how did Sarah catch HFMD? I really don't know. I did hear from yeeyee last Friday that there's a HFMD epidemic going around but I really didn't expect it to hit home so soon! And given that the incubation period is 3-7 days, we've really not been to a lot of crowded places between that 3-7 days period. The only highly probable place I can think of is that I brought Sarah down to the playground at our block for 20min last Wed morning. When we were at the playground, we were the only ones around but I wouldn't know if there was some kid with HFMD playing there before we arrived.

So, it's all very unfortunate. And it's even more unfortunate coz we had dinner with Yeeyee and family on Sunday and the kids played together and now Nic has been diagnosed with HFMD as well. She's got a couple of ulcers in her mouth. Hopefully, it'll be just that and she'll recover fast like Sarah. And hopefully, that's the last we'll hear of it. I've been checking Caleb and Sophia day and night for blisters and thankfully, none so far.

ND did complain that he's got a sore throat and so did Nat... and they both complained about having a painful throat on the same day.... but no blisters or any other symptoms....

I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
