10 Things about Sarah

Here's 10 things about Sarah at 7 and a half months:

1) She's quite a happy girl at home. Some days she'll smile from day to night but when we're out, she'll put on her frown, especially when she sees anybody unfamiliar or when we're in a different environment. It's as though she's deep in thought trying to figure out who the person is or where exactly she is.

2) When she wants to go and sleep, somehow she seems to be making it a habit that I MUST lie down beside her. If not, she'll bawl her lungs out and start searching the room for me. Well, while it's a sweet thought that my daughter wants to be near me..., it also means that if I get somebody else to put her to sleep, she'll give the person hard time. We've tried it before and she ended up bawling her lungs out for 2 hours.

3) She loves anything that is made of plastic (plastic bags are a hot fav!), shiny things, paper, the computer mouse and handphones. She'll make a beeline for it if she spots anything that falls into these categories and after examining them for a while, she'll proceed to stuff them into her mouth.

4) She's started on semi solids and we've discovered that this girl is a fussy eater! She's been on a month of semi solids but till now has only been receptive to plain rice cereal with breast milk and sweet potato. I've tried giving her bananas, apples, carrots in many different ways... from boiling, to steaming to mashing to mixing with breast milk and cereal, and even plain, but she'll have none of it and will try all ways and means to wriggle and hide her mouth from me. I did try out porridge with fish yesterday for her lunch but again, without much success. I tried again for dinner and she finally ate some porridge when I mixed some sweet potato in.

5) So other than solids, this girl also doesn't like water! She's really not much of a feeder. The only thing that she wants is breastmilk, breastmilk, breastmilk! I gave her water from time to time over the last 6 months but she didn't put up any resistance so I didn't think much of it. Now that she's eating semi solids and drinking less breastmilk, I start to give her water more diligently and I discover that she doesn't want to drink it. I'm still trying to crack my brains on how to get her to drink more water.

6) Even though Sarah's not much of a feeder, she's apparently putting on quite a fair bit of weight or at least she's looking very much well padded nowadays with fatty cheeks and thunder thighs.

7) Sarah has a really sweet and gentle personality...most of the time... antogonise her or take away things that she wants and she'll turn into a chilli padi, yelling, squirming and struggling to get what she wants.

8) I was talking to Daddy one night and I said that when Sarah gets older and if there's a fight between she and Caleb, maybe she'll win. Daddy's response? It's not maybe, she'll definitely win! Ya, under the sweet, gentle, patient persona, she can be aggressive.

9) The girl is getting pretty mobile nowadays. She's into commando style crawling. It's amazing how fast she can drag herself across the living nowadays. She'll pause from time to time to lift up her butt, then she'll fall into a frenzy of dragging herself towards her target.

10) Sarah loves looking at the mirror. (Ya, which girl doesn't right? She obviously knows how to admire herself) Put her in front of a mirror and she'll break into a big lovely smile. It works even when she's extremely cranky and brawling her lungs out. We'll bring her to the mirror and she can stop immediately and smile at herself!

See the cheeky girl!
