Spectrum organised a Baby Shower party for us this evening. Had great food and great wine, thanks to a wine connoisseur in the group. Great fun and hugely entertaining conversations, thanks to the open sharing and the contributions of jokers who dom't mind being laughed :)
More importantly though, we enjoyed it because of the love that you can feel from these people, knowing that support and advice are readily available when you need them.
If any of you Spectrum pple are reading this, thanks for being the family that God intended for Spectrum to be... just like our theme song for new comers "... may we always be to you, what God would have us, be a family, always there..."
I do feel that everyone of us ought to be in such a support group. We are a generation thrust into the mire of non-stop activities, work, sports, media, emails, internet, fast fast fast. We are not allowed the time to slow down, get to know our neighbours (mine incidentedly sells superb Mutton Soup in a hawker centre in the east of Singapore), or just enjoy a good match of soccer with friends. We have not been able to establish close enough friendships with people of our own generation, which results in isolated families. Men can learn from each other how to take care of their children without their wives, allowing them to go for their girls night outs, shopping trips and let-hair-down outings. Perfect example from one of the guys in our group who took care of his year-old plus daughter while his wife went on a diving trip (happening wife this). No doubt I will be getting some pointers from him when my wife goes... hmm... mountain climbing again? (hey, don't laugh, this wife of mine climbed Mount Kinabalu while being pregnant... tough one she is.)
