Sarah @ 9 months

Sarah turned 9 months yesterday! This has been an exciting month coz we're discovering new things about her every other day. For the past month she has gotten more adventurous and would crawl around the house. She would try to crawl to chairs/ tables/ cupboards and try to pull herself up to stand. Yes, time to really watch her and baby proof the house.
She loves the TV console that we have in the living room. It is very low and comes up to the height of her chest and other than the TV, we've got toys there as well so it's a definite attraction for her. Everyday she'll make her daily pilgrimage to the TV console, pull herself up to stand and she'll either try to pull at the toys on the TV console, attempt to give the TV screen a lick, or bang at the keyboard that we have on the other side of the TV.

Here she is attempting to lick the TV screen.
She knows she's not supposed to do it but she's a really cheeky girl and would purposely attempt to lick the screen a few more times especially when she hears the change in my tone.

Sarah banging on the keyboard.

She's into waving hi and bye. She understands the words "hi", "hello" and "bye" and will smile and wave at us, in a "broken wrist" way, when she hears those words. Unfortunately, this only occurs with people she's familiar with. Most of the time, everybody else who attempts to see her wave, will get her trademark frown and the puzzled look that seems to say "who are you? hmmm, now where have I seen you before?"

Other than waving, Sarah's also attempting to do the action for "friend kiss" but she usually ends up sticking one finger in her mouth when we say that and she'll keep it there and smile. Not quite there yet, but I think she'll probably get it in a few more weeks.

She's into pointing her finger too. She likes to point at people and when we point back and touch her finger with our finger, she'll break into a cheeky smile.

Nowadays, when Daddy comes home after work, she give him her brightest smile, wave frantically at him (with both hands to show how excited she is) and then speed crawls to him to get a hug. (Ya, she's working on wrapping Daddy round her little finger...)

There are a few "games" that she likes to play.
She likes to "play" the game of "taking" and "giving". She thinks it's really funny when she picks up something and I ask her to "give" me. She'll place it in my hand and laugh and wait eagerly for me to return it to her and then she'll want to "give" me again.

See how delighted she is in the video when I play this game with her using her blouse. I think she feels a sense of achievement when I praise her for giving me the blouse.

The other game that she likes to play is to drop things onto the floor. Well, actually this is her idea of a game and not exactly mine coz I do not enjoy picking things up repeatedly for her.
Anyway, she's very curious about the effects of dropping things so when she gets hold of a toy, she'll first thoroughly examine it by looking at it from all angles. Sometimes she'll try to taste it. And then she'll test its durability by throwing/ dropping it on the floor. Then she'll look for it. If she can't reach it, she'll scream/ yell for us to pick it up for her, and she'll throw it onto the floor again.

Here she is playing with Daddy's lens cover and throwing it on the floor.

She also enjoys taking things out of boxes, containers, shelves etc. She'll relentlessly work at throwing everything out and leaves no stones unturned. Again, this is not a game that I particularly enjoy BUT it does come in useful when I need to occupy her for a while. I'll play a box with lots of stuff inside and let her sit there to take out EVERYTHING.

Check out the video of her wracking havoc at the shelves beside Caleb's bed. She's relentlessly throwing all the books off the shelves and just ignoring me.

Over the past three days, I introduced Gerber's banana puffs to help her practice her motor skills and teach her to self feed. The very first time I placed the banana puffs in front of her, she grabbed one in each hand and refused to let it go for a long time and even crawled around the floor with both hands clutching her loot. The 2nd day that I gave her the puffs, she realised that they can be eaten but couldn't quite figure out how to pop them into her mouth. Today when I gave them to her again, she was able to pick the puff from my palm and stuff it in her mouth. I was really quite amazed. Really, kids nowadays pick up things so quickly!

She's becoming quite "chatty" this week. She's now practising "ba-ba", "da-da", "boo-boo", "pa-pa", "dee-dee", and "th-th" on top of making other sounds. Daddy insists that when she says "Da-da" or "dee-dee", she is calling him. (Btw, he also insists that Sarah adores him!) Anyway, I shan't argue with him and just let him go on thinking like that coz I know her first word will be... "Ma-ma" or "Mee-Mee" of course!

My cute girl who is bringing us so much fun and joy!
