So anyway, inspired by Yeeyee and Nic, we brought Caleb to Ikea to get himself some furniture to do up his sleeping corner.
We headed for the lights section first coz we noticed that Caleb has been very intrigued with Nic's night light. There were a few designs which I felt was suitable for boys. There was a big blue seashell light, a green seahorse, an orange sun, pink and white flowers and an orange torch. I would have chosen the seashell or seahorse for Caleb but when we asked him to make his choice, he chose the orange torch without any hesitation. In my opinion, the orange torch really looks quite boring so I tried to see if I could influence his decision. We went through all the lamps and compared each lamp with the orange torch. And I'll ask him, don't you think the blue seashell is much nicer than the torch? And each time he'll be very insistent and say "No! No! The torch is nicer." I gave in when I saw how insistent he was. And I can tell you, he was really excited when we took the lamp down to make payment.
Other than the lamp, we thought it would be a good idea if we bought him a small bedside drawer as well so that he could keep a few of his toys and books beside his bed. So off we went to get a small blue drawer for him.
When we were ready to shift Caleb to his new sleeping location, we talked to him about sleeping on his own for a bit to prepare him. And then we got him involved by getting his help to shift his mattress, set up the light and his drawer. He was really excited when we switched on his orange light for the first time and then he ran around picking out his favourite toys and his bible to keep in his drawer.
Well, he adjusted really fast actually. The first night that he slept in his new location, he woke up in the middle of the night and gave out a frightened yell. But Daddy reacted really fast and went to him swiftly and prompted patted him back to sleep. Ever since then, heehee, he has been sleeping really well on his own. We thought that he might come to us in the middle of the night but that hasn't happen at all. Actually I think he sleeps better on his own coz he'll wake up in the morning, see that me and Daddy are still asleep and he'll go on his own accord to continue lying on his bed. Or sometimes, he'll just open his drawer and start playing with his toys till we wake up, so, the new arrangement has been working out really well for us!
