Our Family Portriat by Caleb the Artist

Two months back, I was minding the kids in our cg and trying to keep them occupied so that the rest of the adults could concentrate on having bible study. As Mother's Day was round the corner, I asked the children to try to draw a picture of themselves with their Mummy. It was then that I saw Caleb's first "real" drawing. Typically, he either scribbles lines all over the paper, or he draws some circles. Most of the time he actually insists that I draw for him coz he says he doesn't know how to draw. Well, in the presence of the other children, he actually set down and started drawing a stick man with eyes, nose, mouth, hands and legs. I was really pleasantly surprised coz he's always reluctant to draw with me so I had no idea that he could actually draw like that. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring his first "real" drawing home to keep. But... I managed to persuade him to draw me another picture of him and me and this is what he did...

It's quite a close replica of what he drew initially. I labelled the stick drawings for him so that we can tell who is who. The strokes across the mouth actually represents teeth (according to him). He attempted to give me a green dress which he "coloured" on the drawing of me. I praised him for his drawing and we proceeded to put it up in our room to encourage him.
Over the weekend, I requested for him to draw a family portrait for us as I was curious to see what he would come up with. This is what he drew for me.

He drew himself first, and told me that he was lying down. Then he drew a picture of me, followed by Daddy. Initially he told me that there was no space left for Sarah, then he said oh, I can draw here... and he proceeded to draw Sarah in next to him. Daddy and I think it was a really good attempt on his part (although Daddy does think that we look like aliens...). Well, whatever it is, to me, this family portrait is beautifully drawn and is really precious and priceless.
