Yesterday we brought Caleb to see the pediatrician for a routine check and injection for a range of vaccines. Alas, his usual pediatrician was on leave and we had to see her colleague. Well, this colleague of hers... from our observation from previous visits, to put it mildly, let's just say its a challenge for the babies/children to identify with her. Almost every child that goes into her office comes out crying, and it is with this perception/fear in our minds that we enter her office, with sleeping boy boy held ever so slightly more tightly by his mother.
Early signs suggest that our perception is not wrong and true enough, when she had to check boy boy, he was rudely woken up with presses, limp movements etc... and of course promptly started to cry, keeping the record consistent. He was somewhat placeted after a while when the nurse started to play with him and could manage a smile or two.
It was at this opportune time in which a 2.5cm long needle was inserted into his thigh and the shock he got was quite evident in his facial expression, quickly escalating into yelling, which can only be placeted this time round by the familiar and reassuring hug of his mother.
As we left the office, both of boy boy's parents exchanged knowing eye-contacts which suggests that we have a common understanding that we will definitely check if Caleb's original pediatrician is on leave first before making a trip down.
