Over the past month, Caleb has been amazing us with his development. Everyday, there is something new that we are discovering about him. Here's a summary of what he has achieved recently.
At 10 and a half months, Caleb can say a couple of words. His first word is "ball". This was followed by "no-no". We did not deliberately teach him "no-no" but we must have been saying that to him quite a bit whenever he does something that he is not supposed to. He surprised us one day by telling us "no-no" when he didn't want to finish his porridge. Sometimes, his "no-no" is accompanied by him shaking his head or shaking his forefinger.
Caleb can also say, "da-da", "ma-ma", "mum-mum", "where", "there", and "car".
Caleb has a fairly good understanding of what we say to him. The obvious one is when we talk to him sternly when he tries to do something that he is not supposed to. He probably understands coz of the change of tone in our voice. He would look at us before touching the electrical sockets. First he will start with putting his hand on the wall just beside the socket and look at us. We will start with the first "no-no". Sometimes he would just move away with that first warning from us. Other times, he would test the boundaries by trying again, each time, inching closer to the socket and looking at us to see our reaction.
Caleb understands that even though he does not see something, it doesn't mean that it is no longer there. We discovered this today actually. We were out and Daddy had gone to the toilet. Mummy was walking around with Caleb and after a while, decided to ask him where Daddy is. He actually remembered that Daddy had gone to the toilet and pointed to the toilet. Gone are the days when things which are out of sight become out of mind.
We think that Caleb caught the dancing genes from Daddy. Whenever he hears upbeat music, he would shake his body and bob up and down in tune with the music. Sometimes, he will raise 1 finger in the air and shake along. We think he learnt this from watching Hi-5 when he visits at Grandma's place. His cousin, Nicole jie jie watches Hi-5 during meal times and when he hears the Hi-5 intro song, he will start his "dancing" for a short while.
Caleb has progressed from crawling to standing with support, to cruising with support. Last week, he started pushing his toys (which doubled up as a walker) a lot. And the day before, he started to walk with Daddy and Mummy each holding one hand, and the amazing thing is that the very next day, he could walk if either of us held on to only one hand. We think that he can probably start walking on his own pretty soon. I think it helps that he is very active and keeps working out his muscles.
