That Little Boy of Mine

I was reminded last week that the title of this blog was "Diary of a New Daddy", but somehow, over the months of blogging, and no less due to the fact that Caleb is so so cute and that so many people are asking for his photos, this blog has turned into "Caleb's Online Album!". While I have found it a joy to share Caleb's charm with one and all, I am now aware too, that the original purpose of this blog has since gone slightly AWOL... so here's an attempt to steer the rudder back a bit towards the original direction :)

...

As Caleb continues to grow, his relentless appetite to explore all things new, whether they are within reach or or out of reach, low or high(!!!), blunt or sharp(!!!), safe or dangerous(!!!), continues to grow too. He is starting to have a mind of his own and will promptly decide to ignore the "no no"s, if he deems that the object of his interest is worth the 'chiding' or disapproving stares of his parents.

So in my attempt to equip myself with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle 'the boy' in Caleb, I started reading "Bringing Up Boys" by Dr James Dobson. A story and a poem brought a smile and a tear out of me, no doubt you would have no difficulty distinguishing which brought out the smile and which brought out the tear... here they are.

A story told by "perfectly decent grown men"
"In the seventh grade, the biology teacher had us dissect fetal pigs. My friends and I pocketed the snout of the pig and stuck it on the water fountain so that the water shot straight up out of the pig's nostrils. No one really noticed it until they were bent over just about to drink. The problem is that we wanted to stick around and see the results, but then we started laughing so hard that we got caught. We all got the paddle for that" - Mark, Ohio, 1960.

A poem - "That Little Boy of Mine"
"Two eyes that shine so bright
Two lips that kiss goodnite
Two arms that hold me tight
That little boy of mine

No one could ever know how much your coming has meant
Because I love you so, you're something heaven has sent.

You're all the world to me.
You climb upon my knee.
To me you'll always be,
That little boy of mine."
